Abstract:

Thinking about building a Project Management Office (PMO)? You’re not alone but be warned: up to 70% of PMOs fail within their first three years. Why? Because most organizations focus on process before purpose, structure before sponsorship, and governance before goals.

This session offers a practical, no-nonsense introduction to what a PMO really is (and what it’s not), who needs one, and how to lay the groundwork for success. Whether you’re considering a PMO, being asked to build one, or are just trying to understand what they actually do, this session will help you avoid the common pitfalls that doom PMOs and equip you with the right questions to ask before you even open a spreadsheet.

We’ll cut through the jargon, bust a few myths, and leave you with a realistic roadmap for PMO success without losing your team, your momentum, or your mind.

At the end of the session, attendees will be able to:

  1. Understand what a PMO is and what it’s not
  2. Identify key signals that your organization may (or may not) be ready for a PMO
  3. Explore the top reasons PMOs fail and how to avoid them
  4. Ask the right questions before starting to build a PMO
  5. Understand the first steps to laying the foundation for a successful PMO
  6. Walk away with a mindset shift
