In our previous installment, we explored Value Stream Management (VSM) as a holistic approach to project delivery and discussed how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) elevate this methodology by pinpointing inefficiencies early and suggesting proactive solutions. Now, let’s roll up our sleeves and dive deeper into the actionable side of things: How AI and ML identify and improve value streams in real-world scenarios.


Why Identifying and Improving Value Streams Matters

Value Stream Management ensures that every step—ideation, development, testing, deployment, and feedback—contributes to delivering real value to the customer. Yet, spotting bottlenecks and inefficiencies can be challenging when you rely solely on human observation or basic performance metrics.

Enter AI and ML: They empower teams to see the entire end-to-end process in rich detail, spotting patterns and insights that humans might overlook. And they don’t just flag problems; they also help predict where the next issue might arise. For both novice and experienced project managers, these capabilities can be game-changers, creating smoother workflows and more confident decision-making.

One of the most powerful ways AI supports VSM is by scanning multiple data sources—project management tools, code repositories, testing systems, communication channels—to pinpoint exactly where work slows down.
